What a DEXA Scan Actually Measures
A DEXA scan answers a question the scale can't: what is your body actually made of? That distinction changes how we understand weight, metabolism, and aging.
Fat, muscle, and bone — separately
DEXA measures fat mass, lean (muscle) mass, and bone density, and it can show how each is distributed across your body. That's why two people at the same weight can have very different metabolic health — a difference weight and BMI completely miss.
Visceral fat: the kind that matters most
DEXA estimates visceral fat — the fat stored around your organs that carries the highest metabolic risk. Tracking it is far more meaningful than tracking weight alone.
Why repeat scans matter
A single scan sets a baseline; repeat scans show whether a plan is working — protecting muscle and reducing visceral fat. That feedback is what makes body composition testing so useful in a real plan.
See where you stand
Education is the first step. A metabolic evaluation turns these concepts into your numbers — and a plan built around them.
