Peri-Operative Metabolic Evaluation

Objective pre-surgical assessment using physiologic testing to define risk, identify modifiable limitations, and support targeted prehabilitation.

Overview

Optimizing Surgical Outcomes

Surgical outcomes are not determined by the procedure alone. A patient's metabolic reserve, cardiopulmonary fitness, and body composition all influence recovery, complication risk, and long-term results. Yet these factors are often poorly characterized before surgery.

Our peri-operative evaluation uses cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) to objectively measure functional capacity and determine anaerobic threshold — data that has been shown to predict surgical risk more accurately than traditional assessments. We also evaluate body composition, nutritional status, and metabolic function to identify areas where pre-operative optimization (prehabilitation) can improve outcomes.

We work collaboratively with surgical teams to provide actionable data that informs timing, risk stratification, and prehabilitation planning. The goal is not to delay surgery — it is to ensure patients are as prepared as possible when they reach the operating room.

Prepare for Better Outcomes

If you or your patient is facing surgery, a pre-operative metabolic evaluation can provide the data needed to optimize preparation and reduce risk.
